When Rich asked an old friend in a Science class when he was 15 how to blot out his mum’s annoying Status Quo addiction, the answer came back quite simply – learn to play an instrument. Loudly. Quickly dismissing the piccolo, flute and pink oboe Rich settled on the Bass.

A number of years playing in several pub and small venue bands cemented his love for bass, but Rich could never find the niche where he felt he belonged. Thrash never satisfied his craving for meaty pounding bass; the Blues proved too slow and predictable; Jazz twisted his mind and had little melody; Funk had rhythm and soul but little meat to it. And so, gig after gig, year after year he quickly grew very fed up of playing in local bands that could do little else but play ‘Can’t Get Enough’ and fend off requests for ‘slow blues’ – ‘in E.’

In an effort to avoid death by ‘Slow Blues’ (where your wife’s run away with the milkman, the house burned down while the boss was busy firing you and your dog just got killed by a record player playing Bad Company albums falling from the bedroom window as it went up in smoke) Rich decided to audition for Jack’s Family. Now, finally he has a firm bottom end (to his sound) plenty of meat to play with (again, his sound) and a tight and dark outfit in which to pound away in.
